Things are NOT looking good for the Republican Party.
As the GOP’s president, Donald Trump, has pretty much left the party in a state that they will never recover from, and things are getting even worse as an unbelievable new report delivers a deafening blow about the National Rifle Association (NRA).
According to Politico, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) is starting to investigate the NRA for the acceptance of illegal contributions from Russia during the election. As the NRA heavily supported Trump in the 2016 election, it’s quite possible that the NRA could be connected to Trump’s Russia scandal.
Politico reports that the FEC began examining the NRA after being tipped off by the American Democracy Legal Fund (ADLF), who asked them to look into any connections between the NRA and foreign nationals that may have been connected to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This could be a very big deal as it’s been estimated that the NRA contributed close to $30 million to Trump’s campaign.
This new information builds upon a statement that was made by an NRA attorney last month when the lawyer told Senator Ron Wyden that the NRA was already being examined by the FEC for “possible Russia donations.” Brad Woodhouse, the treasurer of ADFL, has stated that the FEC confirmed their latest probe on the NRA, and that an FEC official even explained to him that probes are launched whenever there is a reason to believe that there have been violations in campaign finance laws. Ouch!
“This story sounds more like a Tom Clancy novel than a reality. But in the age of Donald Trump and possible collusion with Russia, not only is it possible that it’s true, but it’s possible enough that it needs to be fully investigated.”
It’s starting to look like the 2016 election is going to be the downfall of everything that the GOP has left. The president and the NRA are going down and the party’s reputation is already shattered. Conservatives may end up being responsible for their own extinction in our government.
